Top: Forever21 turtleneck, Ann Taylor Loft Striped Cardigan
Bottom: Ann Taylor Loft Skinny Jeans sz 6
Coat: Express Peacoat
Shoes: Steve Madden Candence Boots
This outfit is one of my favorite outfits to wear. I love casual wear because it’s just easy! There’s nothing hard about putting one layer over another. One is a neutral and one is a basic print. I need to master the art of layering but sometimes it’s just easy to dress how you normally dress. I dress for comfort and ease. I think as a mom, I have to resort to basics rather than mastering with leather jackets or midi skirts with pleated blouses. Ahhh, too confusing but doesn’t I won’t try.
What trend/style are you looking forward to try this year?
My armful of clothing to the fitting also included this beautiful Faux Wrapped Dress. The material is stretchy and drapes like a wrapped dress but it really doesn’t. The wrapped dress look is great for hiding tummies and it also accentuates the waistline.
What I did not like about the dress was the deep V neck. Also the drape does not align with the hem of the dress. So you can see the inch or two of fabric dips below the hemline. That is one of my pet peeves.
I picked up this white creamy skirt. Straight cut with side pockets that I thought would not look good with my body. But I think the cut proved that it fits very well.
Another thumbs up is the striped sweater with metallic ribbons. The thin stripes totally makes my chest look ample and highlighted my waist along with the contrasting white skirt.
This Aline pleated skirt caught my eye because it looked like the Tibi Normandy skirt I had really wanted but couldn’t afford. The Banana Republic version featured a shorter length skirt opposed to the midi style of the Tibi skirt. The BR skirt had a brown floral against black while Tibi skirt was light brown against navy.
This skirt also went well with the stripes sweater. I was very pleased with my shopping success. What surprised me was the abundance selection in the petites section. I am 5’6″ not considered Petite but somehow the petite sizing works with my body. I was always frustrated that Regular Banana Republic sizing was so frumpy on me. I believe now I would shop more in the petites section.
I did not purchase anything from this shopping excursion, due to a crying baby. My little Emma decided to get cranky so I had to put off my purchase. I will be going to Biloxi, MS soon and I know the BR outlet there is a really good one. Hopefully there will be better pricing.
Banana Republic Factory was having 40% off (aren’t they always saying that?). I stopped by with my husband. He wanted to see if there was anything he liked. While he was perusing, I did a mad dash with an armful of clothing. It looked like I hit the jackpot.
While in the petite section, I noticed this straight cut sheath dress with a stretchy fabric. Unfortunately though my mind liked, my body did not like. It was very dull with no shape front or back. It resembled my maternity wear for some reason.
Wow! I love this sheath dress in tweed. Classic shape with a fitted belt at my waist to define it. This was a size 6 petite. Love the length and the arm holes fit with no gaps.
The backside looks fabulous too. I can wear to work, lunch meeting, PTA meetings, kids’ recitals, etc. I think this would be a great addition to my wardrobe.
My my my. I’m on a roll. This is a great fitting trench. The length of the sleeves are great. It has deep pockets which I like. And the belt sits right on my waist.
This is another one I would like to have on my wish list. Back view looks really good. Overall I’m happy with the tweed dress and the black trench.
Stay tune for Part 2 of the Banana Republic outfits.
Top: Cowl Neck Long Sleeve and Striped Boatneck Layering Shirt – Ann Taylor Loft
Bottom: Petite Modern Slim Leg Corduroy Pants – Ann Taylor Loft – sz 28 Petite
Shoes: Banana Republic Studded Wedges (old)
I bought the Cowl Neck Tee in 3 different colors – Desert Sand, Ultra Plum and shown Mystic Ocean. I love these cowl necks. They are soft and comfy. I like these more than a turtleneck because it’s looser and doesn’t constrict. So if it gets too hot outside, I’m less likely to overheat. For a nippier days, I’ll add the boatneck tee underneath for extra warmth. Now it hasn’t been getting that cold. It’ll be windy, and chilly in the morning but by noon it’s in the High 70s. Perfect for shorts and a tee. By putting on thin layers and just pulling them off when the weather changes, I’m able to adjust my outfit right at work or wherever I’m at.
I don’t feel like I’m wearing that much layers. It’s very light. The same goes for the Modern Slim Leg Cords. The ones I’m wearing is Incense Khaki. I also have it in Pink Rouge and Grey. These are lightweight cords that hug to my body and don’t feel like denim at all. The only complaint is that when I walk, the fabric on the inside of my thighs rubs together and it makes this grrrr, grrrr noise. A bit annoying.
Sunglasses: Cat Eyes – Ralph by Ralph Lauren
These glasses are not the average dainty sunglasses. I love the tilt of the glasses – the cat eye expression- very seductive. Why I had to have this pair? It’s PURPLE! Yes, the other side is striped purple to give a funky edge to the sunglasses. This is my go to pair now. It fits nicely and doesn’t pinch the sides of my head (like my Michael Kors one) and there is no pressure on my ears.
This entire outfit is easy to wear. I can wear it grocery shopping, hanging out with my kids, even go to my work (my office doesn’t have a dress code but still need to keep it professional). The pieces of clothing are easily mixed and remixed.
Have you run into any versatile pieces lately?
Top: Ann Taylor Loft Lace Inset Tank, Banana Republic Suit Blazer, UO Striped Cardigan
Bottom: Armani Exchange Jeggings
Shoes: First Picture – Banana Republic Studded Wedges, Other Pictures – Seychelles Stacked Heel Tall Boots
Handbag: First Picture – Coach Leather Crossbody, Other Pictures – BCBGMAXAZRIA Lambskin Studded Hobo Crossbody
With the first picture, I wanted to show that by changing your accessories, the whole outfit can change. The first picture with the smaller crossbody bag and wedges, is my conservative look. I need to be at a PTO meeting, picking up my kids, doing something that requires speed then the wedges are my go to shoes for that day. I want to wear something comfortable, that won’t hurt my feet or turn my ankle. The smaller crossbody makes me carry my essentials so I don’t have to dig around for this or that. I like this handbag for that reason because sometimes if I let go of my kid’s hand just for a second, she would go running off in a different direction. I like to think this particular outfit explains the “mom sensibility.”
The other pictures depict taller boots and a bigger handbag. I love how this outfit gives me a boost of confidence. The boots and the handbag with STUDS (my favorite detail at the moment) just has this different vibe. I usually wear this outfit for ladies night, or to a luncheon. I have gone to work like this too. I have worn this outfit too many times. It’s my go to outfit.
What is your go to outfit for a normal day?
I decided to venture into Kohl’s to return the 4 items from my online purchase. You can see these items from this post. After almost 1 month, I hadn’t pulled out any of the items except the Cafe tint Pleated Skirt. I really liked the skirt but I felt it wasn’t me. Well since I was at Kohl’s, I wanted to try on a few of Lc Lauren Conrad’s latest pieces.
What I’m wearing:
1. LC Lauren Conrad Polka-Dot Ruffle Chiffon Blouse
I’m wearing a size Small. I like how it looks but right underneath that bow is a button. Only where it ties, it is really tight. Not super tight but “Oh no, will I be able to button this shirt tight?”
2. LC Lauren Conrad Floral Accordion-Pleat Chiffon Skirt
LC Lauren Conrad Ruffle Chiffon Camisole
Lovely outfit. This is my favorite fitting. The look is flirt and romantic. Too bad it’s getting cold. I’m going to try pairing this outfit with a cape or tweed jacket.
3. LC Lauren Conrad Polka-Dot Embellished Shirtdress
When I read reviews on this dress, many people said “Cute dress. Tacky Rhinestones.” Yes the rhinestones does diminish the appeal of the dress. It’s pretty cute in the picture though. My main problem was that single button underneath the tie at the waist. I was wearing a size 8 – very fitted but a bit too tight for me at the waist. Also with the size 8, the back was bunching, so I knew a size 10 would not work for my body. Such a shame.
4. LC Lauren Conrad Pointelle Bow Sweater
Cute and fitted sweater that I would really like to have purchased. The quality is a bit stiff to me, not as soft as I thought it would be. The bow on the backside gives a feminine, flirty appeal that is consistently shown through LC Lauren Conrad’s Collection.
5. LC Lauren Conrad Lace Top
This is another top that has a tie back bow at the back by the neck. Very stretchy material that is flattering to many body types. I am wearing a size Small and the armholes are perfect and so is the length. I believe I can wear this with a blazer and pants, or even a skirt.
6. LC Lauren Conrad Chiffon-Trim Blazer
I am wearing a size 6 in this blazer. LC Lauren Conrad’s sizing is pretty off throughout her collection. Some I wear XS, S, 6, 8, etc. With this blazer a 6 was pretty loose, but I couldn’t find a size 4 to try on. I do like the style. Many reviews online said the color is not a true pink as shown on kohls.com but more brown (a common problem this year even with different brands). I personally like a deeper pink color but the style of the blazer wasn’t really wowing me. There was another blazer I tried on: LC Lauren Conrad Ruched Boyfriend Blazer, however I could only find a size 8. The size 8 was huge on me. The width of the arm holes were strangely wider than normal. It was a good idea to ruched the sleeves giving the blazer a more casual flair but it didn’t look right with the huge arm holes. I lvoe the color though.
Did anyone pick anything up from LC Lauren Conrad?
Top: J. Crew Merino Turtleneck in Bright Coral
Bottom: Express Editor Slacks in Brown
Scarf: Ann Taylor Loft Floral Print Scarf
Shoes: Ann Taylor Loft Suede Pumps in Black
Handbag Ann Taylor Loft Hobo Bag in Black
Belt: Ann Taylor Loft Hair Calf Skinny Belt
With this outfit, I am entering my first Fashion contest hosted by Cute and Little. I love turtlenecks. I start pulling out all my turtlenecks as soon as Fall starts. I just can’t wait to wear my winter clothes. It doesn’t get too cold in Houston, unfortunately. I am pretty sure I get funny looks from people because I will wear a sweater when it’s 70 degrees outside. I just love cooler weather.
J. Crew fashions are to die for. They always have brights, brights! I got this turtleneck while J. Crew was having their 50% off all sale items. Thank goodness for that or I would not have gotten this turtleneck. The color is very pretty and feminine. I paired this top with a Floral Print scarf that just pops even more against the coral turtleneck. I didn’t know if I should have worn a lighter colored pants. The brown slacks didn’t show very well in the light. It looks more black in the picture.
I am going live outside my box and experiment more with brights. This challenge was pretty fun.
Thank you in advance!

Sweater Dress: Ann Taylor Loft Sweater Dress (Winter 2010) sz: MP
Tights: Black Opaque tights from Hue
Belt: Ann Taylor Loft Metallic Skinny Belt sz: M
Shoes: Banana Republic Cheetah Ballet Flats (outlet)
This was a very cozy and warm outfit. It was a very cold day in Texas the day I took this picture. Cold for Texas at 50 degrees. I wore ballets flats because I had to take the kids to school. With 2 small kids, I rather be safe than sorry if I need to race after one or both of them. At first look on Loft.com, I didn’t really want a Fur Collar Cardigan. I wanted a Fur Vest. It has been an on going search to find the right Fur Vest that would look right on me. Then I happened to stop by the Ann Taylor Loft store in Sugar Land, TX. It’s about 5 miles farther than my usual Loft store. Very quaint boutique, with an abundance of sale items, I quickly scanned for something different. It was the fur that caught my eye. Not as bushy as I thought it would be. I love the fit of it. It has just the right amount of fur detail. And I could remove it when the weather gets warmer.
Anything you recently seen that jumped out and begged to be bought?
Great for upping the GLAM factor of your outfit. Use metallics to dress up a work outfit into a date outfit. The shiny sparkles makes any outfit more festive that’s great for Fall and the Holidays.
2. Furry Fur
Want to keep warm and be stylish at the same time? Add Fur.
3. Camel Colored Coat
Classy in Camel. Any particular camel outerwear pulls together a winter outfit. Even in heels or sneakers, just putting on a camel coat gives that classy, pulled together look. I would wear this coat everywhere.
Zigzags, geometrical patterns have made their way back into style. Just by looking at these patterns gives the outfit an edge, a different feeling compared to wearing a plain shirt. I have been noticing more and more geometrical designs.
5. Distinctive Pop of Color
Winter is not just snowy creams and browns anymore. Bring out the fluorescent oranges, yellows, electric blues and magenta. Spice up your outfit with bright pants, or that neon pink bag you have been eying.
