Tops: J. Crew Factory Camp Shirt, Banana Republic Factory Trench
Bottom: J. Crew Factory No. 2 Pencil Skirt
Shoes: Ann Taylor Perfect Leather Pumps
Happy Valentine’s Day! I have been wearing this Banana Republic Trench everywhere! Not only is it lightweight, it is very warm and serves as a great raincoat. Houston has been cloudy with rain for the past several weeks. We thoroughly need some rain since we are still in a drought.
With cloudy skies, it’s been hard to dress upbeat and fun. So for Valentine’s Day, I want to wear something new and bright. My extremely loud pink J. Crew Pencil Skirt combined with a J. Crew Camp skirt are what I was looking for. I do like the color combo.
I paired the outfit with my Ann Taylor Perfect Leather pumps in Black, but I wish I had found a different color. I have black shoes for boots, pumps, sandals, and flats. I need a variation.
What color shoes should I purchase for this outfit? Pink, Red, what?
Tops: J. Crew Factory Faux Fur Vest with Pockets, Jess Zebra Sweater by Torn by Ronny Kobo
Bottom: Ann Taylor Loft Modern Skinny Jeans
Boots: Rockport Knee High boots
Sunglasses: Nine West
Pockets! What a lovely fur vest. Yes, it is quite bulky, but it has POCKETS! Pockets solve all decision making problems for me. The fur vest wasn’t as soft as I would have liked but I love the length, the color and it has pockets.
I purchased the Zebra sweater from shopbop.com during the Black Friday sale. I love the loungy feel and the material. However the size is humongous for a Small. I should have sized down yet the sleeves are pretty tight on me at a Small. This sweater features dolman sleeves which I always confuse with bat sleeves. Is there a difference?
The shoulders of this sweater doesn’t appear at my shoulder but midway to my elbow. This creates a dropped effect like it’s too big for the body frame. It’s growing on me. It puffs up the sleeves and makes a cool visual effect on a print sweater.
On another note, my boots from Rockport are COMFY! Its soles have the cushioned sole technology to support the feet from being fatigued. However, another post pregnancy FAIL happened. I purchased a size 7.5 since my feet has gotten bigger. Well Rockport runs large. When I walk, I feel like I’m about to trip 50% of the time. So if you’re interested in Rockport boots, size down.
Home for the holidays. To our family home is between Lousiana and Mississippi. My husband’s family resides in Biloxi, MS, also known as the Vegas of the South. I really do like Biloxi. It’s a small town with close knit ties. The atmosphere is very relaxing and calm. Unlike New Orleans, the views are gorgeous hillside trees and spacious expanse of skies so blue.
After Hurricane Katrina, unfortunately many places closed down. The big hotels all renovated, upping the luxe and the charm. Biloxi was hit hard and many of its streets are bare. Majority like my husband’s family moved more inland towards the city of D’Iberville. Along the Sangani Blvd, a whole new community was born. Sprawling with restaurants, shops, and new homes, everything is within 1 mile. It’s amazing how this area became the epic center of live in southern Mississippi.
And what trip would this be without a shopping excursion to the outlet mall.
What amazes me is the vast differences in clothing from one store to another. Look at what I found:
The classic trench that I tried on in Houston was black. I found the exact same one in a tan color. It was alot cheaper than Houston. Houston was $99 unfortunately with no other sale. In Biloxi, it was $99 + 40% off. I still debated whether a black would suit me better. However my husband and my sister in law thought a tan colored trench is more classic and adds a different color to my wardrobe.
J. Crew is another store that I did not purchase anything from while in Houston. But in Biloxi, the deals just were too good to pass up. There was a 40% off on most items + an additional 20% when checking out. I grabbed that field jacket that gave my outfit an edge in my earlier post. I also picked up this:
Striped sweater – I probably have many striped sweaters but the color blocked sleeves caught my eye. The shoulders are like capped sleeves but continued with a color block ribbing down the arms. It’s different than any sweater I have.
I love the color purple. This satiny purple invitation clutch would have been a steal but I talked myself out of purchasing it. I had already purchased way too many purses this holiday season. But I am going to put this on my radar when I have the need for it. Lovely clutch…
After an eventful shopping day, we gorged ourselves on sushi! It has been a LOOOOOOOONNNNNNG time since I had good sushi. In Houston, you have to go towards downtown for GOOD sushi or the one in Richmond, TX which is about 20 minutes drive. However, I would be the only one making that drive since my husband and kids don’t like sushi. My husband will eat the Hibachi rice or anything terriyaki but no sushi.
Good thing my SIL loves sushi!
I got the Cowboy Roll (bottom) which is snow crab, steamed asparagus & cream cheese rolled inside, topped with thinly sliced seared, fresh filet mignon and red flying fish roe, served with samurai style medium spicy bbq eel sauce.
My SIL got the Pink Lady which contains fresh salmon, snow crab, smelt roe, avocado, tuna and cream cheese in a roll wrapped with scarce pink soybean sheet, served with house mustard creamy sauce.
What is different about Samurai is that each table gets a selection of dipping sauces from wasabi sauce, spicy mayo, bbq eel, etc. Ahhhh, craving for the Cowboy Roll as of right now.
Definitely an enjoyable trip.
Top: Ann Taylor Satin Sleeveless Tier Top
Bottom: J. Crew Minnie Pants in Grey
Shoes: Nina Ricci Peep Toe Bow Slingbacks in Silver
Scarf: Missoni Infinity Scarf
I decided to try J. Crew’s Minnie pants. I have been hearing that it’s flattering on all body types. Since it was on sale during Black Friday with 25% off, might as well try it.
I do like how it fits. It elongates my legs making them look leaner and it slims down my hips. Much kudos to the pants. Unfortunately it itches and feels so scratchy when I put it on. The inside fabric is a bit rough and scratchy. Perhaps a defect on my pair?
Luckily, after wearing it for an hour, the scratchiness went away. I guess I got used to the material. The stretchy material and semi high waist is great for shaping my body and helps hide a bit of tummy.
Many women after childbirth are left with a tummy. So I do feel like J. Crew touted this Minnie Pants very accurately. I do find also what helps hide my tummy are tiered tops that have diagonal layers. This Ann Taylor Satin Tiered Stretch Top is a lifesaver. The tiers help hide my tummy while accentuating my upper body. This is one of my favorite tips because I can easily wear it with shorts, jeans, slacks, skirts etc.
This is my first Missoni scarf. I splurged and totally adore the multicolored chevron design. It is so light, poofy and warm. I want to snuggle with it.
Did anyone pick up this Minnie pants? What’s your review on it? How would you style it?
I have been dying for something purple in my wardrobe. Unfortunately the only item that is remotely purple is a light purple cable sweater from Ann Taylor Loft. But I want a rich, and vibrant purple “THING!” Anything. Coats, Tops, Pants, Accessories.. a n y t h i n g.
Here are a few PURPLISH objects I’m craving for:
I saw this outfit in J. Crew’s most recent catalog. But all the items totalled to be very expensive. I decided to research and see where I can get the separates for a much cheaper price.
Total Outfit by J. Crew = $643.50
Top: Anne Klein Novelty Blouse – $47.40
Bottom: Talbots Signature Fit Cord – $27.29 – Few Sizes Left
Alternative Pants: VS Pencil Pant in Corduroy – $47.60
Shoes: ASOS Scala Court – $44.93
Handbag: Fossil Lola Hobo – $104.99
Total Outfit: $224.61 ~ $244.92
Which outfit would you buy? J. Crew or the cheaper one?
